What is Social Media Week?

Social Media WeekI’m excited to participate in my first Social Media Week happening next week, Feb. 13-17. Social Media Week, now in its third year offers a series of interconnected activities and conversations around the world on emerging trends in social and mobile media across all major industries. I will be participating in the Miami area events as it is the closest host city to the Florida Keys. Anyone else interested can register here for Social Media Week Miami.

Other Social Media Week cities include New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Istanbul, London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Glasgow, Berlin, Moscow, Beirut and Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and DC. Annually, Social Media Week attracts more than 60,000 attendees across thousands of individually organized events, with half a million connecting to the conference online and through mobile.

The southernmost US Social Media event to take place will be held on Feb. 14th in Islamorada, Florida Keys at the Bitton Bistro Cafe at 9:30am. The Florida Keys Social Media Meet Up will be a casual gathering of mostly Upper Keys businesses looking to learn more about using social media. I will be presenting some social media tips to help build and engage fans using social sites such as Facebook and Twitter. There will also be an open social media Q & A at the end.  RSVP here for the Florida Keys Social Media Meet Up.

While it may not be possible for most people to actually attend an official Social Media Event, but I recommend at least trying to soak up some of the great content that will no doubt emerge across all social channels next week. You can follow Social Media Week 2012 using Twitter hashtags @socialmediaweek or locally @smwmiami.
